It was just about the end
of May and I thought about adding further Island ingredients to my
repertoire - not edible ingredients, but something that would further bring
the Island experience to dining.
And there is a neat story
behind it too. My first call was to Right off the Batt
Pottery. With a mere mention of "I'm a local chef looking
to incorporate Island hand made table pieces", Darryl exclaimed "you're just
the person we've been waiting to hear from!" Needless to say, we were
both excited.
We arranged to meet the
very next day to discuss some designs that I had been envisioning.
Cindy and Darryl gave me a tour of their studio and introduced me to
their friendly staff. I came back the next day for a little more
brainstorming, with Darryl and Cindy offering their design ideas and
professional insight into the execution of the pieces.
A couple of weeks later
they were kind enough to drop by my place and show me the prototypes.
Some minor changes and the result is what you see in these pictures.
Island designed and
crafted, and in the colour of Island soil, these pieces exemplify Prince
Edward Island - a natural marriage with the local ingredients offered in
Rustica's menus.
